Online fundraiser launched for family of fatal I-80 shooting victim

The victim of a fatal shooting on Interstate Highway 80 near San Pablo Dam Road early Saturday has been identified as Kevin Santisteban, 20, of Richmond, according to the Contra Costa County coroner’s office.

Santisteban was reportedly traveling in a vehicle with two friends on I-80 near San Pablo Dam Road when he was struck by gunfire that came from a passing vehicle, according to police. The driver of the vehicle Santisteban was in aimed to drive to Kaiser Richmond, but the car overheated due to projectile damage, police said.

At 1:08 a.m., Richmond police were called to the 2100 block of Roosevelt Avenue, where they located the car and transported Santisteban to the hospital in grave condition. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, police said.

“Kevin was a loving son, brother, grandson, and friend,” said Mireya Ramirez, who organized the fundraiser. “We are asking for help to provide for his family with financial stress while his family mourns his passing. Kevin will be greatly missed.”

The San Pablo Police Department is investigating the homicide and have not announced an arrest.
