Richmond police arrested a suspect in a violent burglary and carjacking Friday night who reportedly couldn’t operate the vehicle he stole because he didn’t know how to drive a manual transmission.

Officers responded to the 3800 block of Lakeside Drive after the man burglarized an apartment and assaulted an elderly resident, according to Richmond police Capt. Al Walle.

“The suspect attempted to carjack a woman’s car in the parking lot but didn’t know how to drive a manual transmission,” Walle said. “The suspect was arrested without incident sitting in the victim’s vehicle.”
