East Brother Beer releases new lager with old-school roots

By Kathy Chouteau

Although its taproom may be currently closed, East Brother Beer Company has been prolific about brewing new beer during the pandemic.

Starting today, the Richmond brewery has released its newest beer, the Pre-Pro Lager, a “one-of-its-kind Prohibition-era lager recipe [with] a crisp Cluster Hop presence, a bit of corn and barley flavor, and a clean finish,” according to East Brother’s Rob Lightner.

Touted by Lightner as “a beer that’s been more than a century in the making,” the limited edition Pre-Pro Lager is brewed with historic, pre-Prohibition era malting barley made especially for East Brother by Alameda’s Admiral Maltings.

East Brother’s Pre-Pro Lager is available to order with curbside pickup from the taproom’s parking lot, or can be shipped anywhere in California for $15 for a 4-pack. Many local retailers also carry East Brother’s beer.
