The family of one of the four young victims killed Tuesday night after the SUV they were riding in plunged off the Carquinez Bridge has launched a Go Fund Me campaign to help cover funeral expenses for their loved one.

Perla Navarro, 19, a Richmond resident and recent graduate of Golden Gate Community School in Rodeo, was one of four victims of the crash. The Go Fund Me campaign organizer, Jannet Martinez, stated on the page that Navarro was expecting a baby and had plans to attend college and to someday open a psychiatric clinic to help at-risk youth.

“On the evening of June 16, 2020, Perla, along with three others, were driving toward the Carquinez Bridge,” stated Martinez. “In an attempt to avoid an oncoming vehicle, the SUV fell off the side off the bridge…ultimately taking our Perla away from us.”

Navarro had a “passion to help others,” the Go Fund Me states, adding, “She made you feel heard, and she made sure you were seen. As long as you had her by your side, stranger or not, you were never alone. Now the hole she has left us feels like a loneliness never felt before.”

On a Nextdoor post where she shared the link to the Go Fund Me page, Navarro’s aunt, Rosa Maribel, stated, “I know we are all dealing with difficult times at the moment, but if you can donate or share, my family would greatly appreciate it.”

Currently, the Go Fund Me campaign to cover Navarro’s funeral expenses has a goal of $15,000. To support the effort, click here.
