The main parking area at Point Isabel Regional Shoreline will close starting Friday through at least April 30 as part of new measures announced by the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) to address overcrowding amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Visitors will still be able to walk into the park at 2701 Isabel St. in Richmond.
The EBRPD is taking similar action at 13 other park areas (see list of new closures below) after seeing “more people in parks than on a busy holiday” last weekend. That made it difficult to practice social distancing as mandated in the ongoing shelter-in-place order.
The Park District hopes to keep parks and trails open but aims to promote social distancing by closing parking lots and entrance points and making trails accessible only to walkers and cyclists.
Also, previous closures, including to the walk-in entrance trail into the Alvarado Picnic Area of Wildcat Canyon Regional Park, will remain in effect through April 30. Also closed through April 30 are all park picnic areas, restrooms, water fountains, swim facilities/areas, playgrounds, campgrounds, group campsites, backcountry campsites, sports fields, kiosks, and reservable facilities.
