East Bay parks increase restrictions after busy weekend
Point Isabel Regional Shoreline Park

The main parking area at Point Isabel Regional Shoreline will close starting Friday through at least April 30 as part of new measures announced by the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) to address overcrowding amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Visitors will still be able to walk into the park at 2701 Isabel St. in Richmond.

The EBRPD is taking similar action at 13 other park areas (see list of new closures below) after seeing “more people in parks than on a busy holiday” last weekend. That made it difficult to practice social distancing as mandated in the ongoing shelter-in-place order.

The Park District hopes to keep parks and trails open but aims to promote social distancing by closing parking lots and entrance points and making trails accessible only to walkers and cyclists.

Also, previous closures, including to the walk-in entrance trail into the Alvarado Picnic Area of Wildcat Canyon Regional Park, will remain in effect through April 30. Also closed through April 30 are all park picnic areas, restrooms, water fountains, swim facilities/areas, playgrounds, campgrounds, group campsites, backcountry campsites, sports fields, kiosks, and reservable facilities.

  1. Richmond needs to enforce a non guest policy. Stragglers come off the streets to smoke their drugs with tenants. They don’t take advantage of the hand sanitizer placed by the elevator. Ppl say their not worried about this virus. They seem to think the death tolls behind this virus is a lie started by our government. This is what puts everyone else at risk. I say lock down public housing buildings. Only allow residents on a lease to enter a building. Keep visitors and guest out unless they have anelderly patient they care for.
Help stop the spread of this virus. Keep elevators sanitized daily.
