AC Transit is providing free bus service and allowing only rear door boarding during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown, effective today.
The transit agency says it is committed to continuing to provide regular service, except for supplemental service to schools, to help residents access vital resources such as health care. Service could be modified in the future.
While buses are transitioning to rear-door boarding, passengers requiring ADA ramps, utilizing mobility devices or needing priority seating will still use the front door, the transit agency said. Wheelchair riders may be allowed onboard without securements by bus operators, it added.
Social distancing measures of 6-feet or more from other passengers and the bus operator when boarding, exiting and riding the bus, is encouraged.
