Arrest in Richmond related to Berkeley homicide

A Richmond man was arrested Saturday in connection with a homicide in Berkeley, police said.

A Standard reader sent over photos from the scene of the arrest Saturday. The reader said a heavily armed SWAT team descended upon a residence in the area of Marina Bay Parkway and Breakers Boulevard.

Hosea Askew, 52, of Richmond, was taken into custody by members of Berkeley Police Department’s Special Response Team without incident or injury to anyone involved, Berkeley police said.

Askew is accused of fatally shooting a man in his 20s in the area of Chestnut Street and University Avenue at about 12:20 p.m. Friday.
