Richmond Trees, the volunteer organization that has been planting and maintaining trees in the city since 2011, is inviting the community to participate in its first planting of 2020.
Volunteers are encouraged to meet at 9 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, at Burg Park, 2910 Clinton Ave. in Richmond. The event will go on in the event of a light rain, but will be canceled if there’s enough to make the ground too wet for planting or to make conditions too unpleasant.
Richmond Trees is on a mission to grow a healthy urban forest that covers at least 40-percent of the city and is cared for by partnerships between community organizations and the City of Richmond. The group not only encourages residents to participate in fun planting events, but also to adopt a tree.
In the last planting event on Sunday, Dec. 8, the group planted seven new trees in Richmond.
