Three occupants of a vehicle were killed in a collision with an Amtrak train at a Richmond crossing just after midnight today.
A northbound Coast Starlight Train 14 collided with the vehicle at a crossing near Brookside Drive and Giant Road around 12:08 a.m., said Union Pacific spokesperson Tim McMahan.
None of the crew or passengers aboard the train were injured, according to Bay City News, citing an Amtrak spokesperson.
The cause of the collision is under investigation. The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Whitney Pearl and Jose Torres, Jr., both 30 years old, and Robert Taylor, 58.
The Coast Starlight Train 14, had departed from Los Angeles on Sunday and its final destination is Seattle.
