A 61-year-old Oakland man was fatally shot in Richmond Tuesday night, police said.
Police responded to a Shotspotter gun detection activation in the area of 18th Street and Chanslor Avenue at about 11 p.m. and found the victim, who later died at a hospital, Richmond police spokesperson Alicia Moore said.
The Contra Costa County coroner’s office identified the victim today as Byron Scales, Sr. of Oakland.
The motive for the fatal shooting is not known and no arrests have been made, police said.
It was the 10th homicide in Richmond this year.
