The time of year has come again to spruce up Richmond’s downtown park in preparation for summer.
The 3rd annual Spring Clean-Up and Chess in the Park is set for Saturday, June 8, at the Community Green Space in downtown Richmond (Harbour Way and Macdonald Avenue).
The two-part event hosted by the Richmond Main Street Initiative and West Coast Chess Alliance has volunteers helping to spruce of the park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by chess play opportunities for all ages from noon till 1 p.m. Lunch will be served from noon till 1 p.m.
Beautification activities will include weeding (manual & mechanized), pruning, debris pick-up, refreshing planters, and other light gardening work.
Clean-up efforts will support an ongoing beautification effort downtown and prep for upcoming summer events such as the Healthy Village Festival on June 29.
Individuals interested in volunteering for the clean-up are encouraged to sign-up online at www.richmondmainstreet.org/volunteer-sign-up. Walk-ins are welcome, and community service hours will be honored. Tools and supplies will be provided, though volunteers are welcome to bring their own.
