The Blue Angels airshow, BBQ eats, bluegrass music, a batting cage and beautiful weather combined to create an all-around memorable day on the bay Sat., Oct. 12, during the Riggers Loft Annual Harvest Pig Roast.
Hundreds of people came out this year for the annual event, the pinnacle of which was the San Francisco Fleet Week Air Show that saw the Blue Angels dazzling spectators with daring flybys and dazzling jet-trail sketches in the sky over the bay. And while San Francisco’s shoreline enjoyed the lion’s share views of the airshow, Riggers Loft’s prime waterfront location across the bay afforded its guests a nice vantage point as well.
Kicking off the festivities that afternoon was a BBQ buffet prepared by California Rose Catering Inc., which included a choice of pork or chicken, accompanied by a tasty selection of side dishes such as baked beans, potato salad, cornbread and cookies for dessert. Inside Riggers Loft, guests could purchase their choice of a variety of fine wines and ciders produced by various onsite purveyors R&B Cellars, Carica Wines and Far West Cider Company.
While Harvest Roast attendees enjoyed their meals on Riggers Loft’s expansive bayfront patio, bluegrass group, Rusty String Express, entertained everyone with their impressive repertoire of toe-tapping tunes.
Off to the side of the patio, a batting cage set up by Batter’s Box Mobile enabled “kids of all ages” to take their swing at a home run during their time at bat. Much to the delight of the winners, Oakland A’s tickets for next season were given to both the child and adult who scored the best batting averages on that day’s leaderboard.
At 3 p.m., the main-event-appearance of the Blue Angels performing their acrobatics high in the sky provided the peak experience of a truly unforgettable day.
