East Brother Beer Co. has unveiled the second ale in its seasonal Freighter series, the ‘divinely blended’ Belgian Tripel beer, which is inspired by Belgium abbey monks’ Trappist brewing tradition.

East Brother’s Rob Lightner said the Belgian Tripel holds “true to our brewing ethos” and is crafted with “just malt, hops, yeast and a little bit of ‘clear’ Belgian Candi sugar, to ensure the rich straw color and also to lighten the body of this clean and flavorful beer.”

Lightner added that the magic happens during the fermenting process and that the finished beer has “notes of cloves, bananas and fresh dough with a delicious warm hint of alcohol.”

All of these ingredients amount to a go-to summertime beer that evokes “the spirit of a time and place half a world away,” per Lightner. He suggests pairing the Belgian Tripel with “your favorite burger, sausage or birria taco,” noting that “there are very few things this beer doesn’t pair well with.”

Those wanting to try out the Belgian Tripel—a limited release beer—can find it at East Brother’s Richmond Taproom at 1001 Canal Blvd., retailers, bars, restaurants or via delivery services such as Drizly and Instacart. Learn more about East Brother here.
