No matter the animal, Amy Loyd’s store probably has something yummy on the menu for them.

The owner of El Sobrante Feed & Pet Supply at 501 Appian Way provides a rare urban source of a wide variety of feed and supplies for a wide variety of lovable creatures.

An El Sobrante native, Loyd has been in business since February 2010, and the store may be the last of its kind in West County. It offers different types of feed and supplies for horses, chickens, goats, sheep, pigs, pigeons, dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, crickets, mice, rats and many more, Loyd said.

Her favorite part of doing business is interacting with customers, many of whom she knows on a first name basis.

“They bring their animals in, and we get to interact with them,” she said. “We do a lot of rescuing and fostering of animals, so we meet a lot of people that way.”

Last year, Richmond-based nonprofit MAD Dog Rescue publicly recognized El Sobrante Feed for donating a “ton of animal feed” for victims of wildfires in Lake County.

Loyd says she likes to “keep it local,” and that means shopping and dining too. That includes mom and pop shops like nearby Los Cerros Mexican Grill. She also frequents local chains, including Target and Starbucks.
