Two men were arrested today in connection with a shooting on April 3 in the parking lot of Bonfare Market in San Pablo, police said.

About 11:30 p.m. that night, police responded to the 1300 block of 23rd Street following activation of the Shotspotter gunshot detection system, according to San Pablo police Det. Bryan Biama. Officers spoke with five victims who were targeted in the shooting. None of the victims were injured.

With help from parking lot surveillance video that captured the shooting, police learned of two suspects and a suspect vehicle, Det. Biama said. With help from public safety cameras, investigators were also able to identify 31-year-old Alejandro Diaz of Rodeo as the registered owner of the suspect vehicle, and as one of the suspects. In video from the parking lot cameras, Diaz is seen brandishing a small semi-automatic pistol, according to the detective.

The second suspect was identified as Irvin Escalante-Herrera, 31, of San Pablo.

Both suspects were arrested after search warrants were served today in the 900 block of Sandpoint Drive in Rodeo, and in the 2100 block of Emeric Avenue in San Pablo. During the searches, three illegal firearms were recovered, along with multiple other items of evidence leading both suspects to the crime, Det. Biama said.

They were booked into county jail on suspicion of attempted homicide and various firearms related charges.

“This is still an active eongoin investigation and anybody with further information is highly cnoeuraged to contact the San Pablo Police Department’s Investigation’s unit,” Det. Biama said.
