An online fundraiser has been launched in the wake of the senseless fatal shooting of a Richmond mother in Vallejo on Thursday that has left her family stunned, devastated and seeking justice.

Ivana Orizabal, 21, and her boyfriend Alejandro — parents of a 1-year-old boy — were traveling in a silver Mustang on Georgia Street at Fernwood Drive about 5:30 p.m. Thursday when the shots rang out. As they were stopped at a stop sign, an occupant of a passing white SUV randomly opened fire on the passenger side of their car, according to police and family. Orizabal was shot in the head and Alejandro, the driver, was grazed in the back.

Alejandro drove to his sister’s house two blocks away to get help, and the shooter in the white SUV fired six more times before fleeing the area, according to family.

Orizabal was transported to a hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Loved ones are mourning the loss of a young mother described as a loving person who was kind to everyone and had an infectious smile.

“She didn’t deserve to die like that,” said Emanuel Vallejo, Alejandro’s brother. “She was a sweet girl.”

The family has been honoring Ivana’s life with candlelight vigils in Vallejo and Richmond, according to KRON4. Ivana’s cousin, Kuiver, told the news agency, “I know that even if justice is done, the pain that everyone is going through it’s not gonna be healed.”

Police have yet to announce any arrests connected with the murder.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to support Alejandro and his 1-year-old son with medical costs and other expenses during this difficult time.
