The City of San Pablo is inviting its citizens to the 10th Annual Back-to-School Closet Event this Friday, where kids can receive giveaways of clothing, shoes, toys as well as school supplies, books and sports equipment.
The free event will take place this year from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at San Pablo City Hall, Maple Hall (Building 4), at 13831 San Pablo Ave. Last year, the event as held at Davis Park and attracted about 300 children and their families, the city said.
Along with the giveaways, the city has been sending invitations to specific students in need from San Pablo public schools who will be able to pick up their donated backpacks with school supplies at this event, courtesy of Family Giving Tree, which provides over 40,000 backpacks to local Bay Area partners annually.
A community resources fair will also take place at Friday’s event, along with games, arts and crafts, and other health-focused activities.
West County Reads is providing some of the used books that will be given away at the event.
The event is a partnership between the city’s Youth, School, & Community Partnerships Division (YSCP) and Youth Commission (SPYC).
