A beloved teacher at Caliber: Beta Academy in San Pablo was one of two people killed during a mass shooting that injured five others at a downtown Oakland bar early Saturday morning.

According to reports from ABC7, 33-year-old Latetia Bobo died at the scene of the incident, which occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. at EZ’s Lounge on 14th Street.

Bobo was an eighth-grade English Language Arts teacher at Caliber: Beta Academy in San Pablo. The school canceled classes today, Monday, March 9, to allow the community time to process the loss.

“Ms. Bobo was such a special part of our community, deeply cherished by her students, their families, and her colleagues,” Caliber Public Schools said in a statement. “Whether it was supporting a student, connecting with a family, or collaborating with a teammate, she did so with intention and heart. She was an incredible educator and an even more incredible human being who truly valued relationships and community. Her presence brought light to our campus, and she will be deeply missed by all of us.”

ABC7 news reports that the second person to die in the shooting was identified as 25-year-old Markise Martin. Five other people were wounded in the gunfire. Oakland police reportedly recovered several firearms at the scene and detained multiple individuals for questioning. The investigation remains ongoing by the Oakland Police Department Homicide Section. Anyone with information or video evidence is asked to contact police.
