As San Francisco welcomes thousands of visitors for the Super Bowl LX festivities, Richmond artist Chamia LaRae is offering tourists and locals a cultural sanctuary at Macy’s Union Square.

The free exhibition, titled “Black Brilliance 2026,” is located on the store’s third floor and features the work of eight Bay Area artists. This showcase is a high-profile satellite of the 29th annual Art of the African Diaspora, a regional event centered at the Richmond Art Center that highlights over 160 creators of African descent.

An opening reception and artist talk for the Macy’s Union Square exhibition takes place Saturday, Feb. 7, from 1-3 p.m. A meet-and-greet is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 14, and the closing reception will be held on Saturday, March 7. All events are free and open to all ages.

The collection includes a mix of paintings, sculptures, photography, and digital art. LaRae, who serves on the Art of the African Diaspora Advisory committee, selected the featured artists to highlight the different creative styles found across the nine Bay Area counties.

“Their perspectives, imagination and deliberate execution shine in this space,” said LaRae. “This exhibition is free and friendly to people of all ages who may be in town for the big game.”

This is the fifth year Macy’s has partnered with the 2026 Art of the African Diaspora to host one of its 40 satellite exhibitions.
