Supervisor John Gioia has launched a $1 million grant program to improve equity and reduce economic disparities in West Contra Costa County. Local nonprofits can now apply for grants of up to $50,000 each to fund projects focused on health, housing, education, and the environment.
This funding is part of a $5 million countywide investment approved by the Board of Supervisors in June 2025. The program is sourced from one-time American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars remaining in the county’s reserves. Each supervisorial district received $1 million to address specific local needs.
The priorities for the West County program were determined by more than 275 residents who participated in five town hall meetings and a focus group held throughout late 2025. Community feedback emphasized a high demand for better mental health services, affordable housing, youth vocational training, and improved local parks. Residents also requested that the funding process remain transparent and focused on long-term community benefits.
Nonprofit groups must submit their applications by Friday, Feb. 27. The county expects to announce the grant winners by the end of March. Organizations interested in applying can find the application and the full community report on the District One website.
