Richmond firefighters responded to three separate apartment fires across the city on Saturday.

The first fire was reported at about 3 p.m. Saturday near 8th Street and Nevin Avenue, according to Richmond Firefighters Local 188, the union representing city firefighters. Fire crews contained the blaze within about 15 minutes after upgrading the call to a two-alarm response, bringing additional personnel and equipment to the scene. Residents in the area were evacuated as a precaution, but there were no reported injuries.

Just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Richmond firefighters assisted the El Cerrito Fire Department at a fire on the third floor of an apartment building on the 500 block of Lexington Avenue in El Cerrito. Richmond’s Engine 64 was assigned to search for possible trapped residents ahead of advancing hose lines. Firefighters found that occupants had already left the building safely before their arrival.

Soon after, at around 10:45 p.m., crews were called back to Nevin Avenue for another apartment fire. Crews were able to limit the fire to the attic area of the complex, preventing the blaze from spreading to other parts of the building.
