The Hercules Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at an undisclosed location in the city on Friday, Dec. 19.
DUI checkpoint locations are chosen based on data about where impaired-driving crashes happen. The main goal of these checkpoints is to keep the public safe by removing impaired drivers from the road.
A first DUI charge can cost about $13,500 in fines and penalties and can lead to a suspended license.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Traffic Officer Scholl said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”
This program is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
