Following the Thanksgiving holiday, the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) is urging Bay Area residents to skip the shopping rush and instead take advantage of its annual “Green Friday” event on Friday, Nov. 28.

For this one day, all entrance and park-use fees for the district’s parks are waived. The fee waiver covers parking, boat launching, fishing access and entrance to Ardenwood Historic Farm. However, state-required fishing licenses, watercraft inspections and certain concession fees (such as rides and special services) still apply.

This year’s Green Friday events include a 9 a.m. planting session at Contra Loma Regional Park in Antioch (registration requested), a 9 a.m. hike among the redwoods at Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park in Oakland, a 9 a.m. hike at Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve in Antioch, a 10 a.m. “Gratitude Hike” at Sunol Wilderness Regional Preserve, and a 10:30 a.m. hike at Coyote Hills Regional Park in Fremont.
