A longtime North Richmond tradition is underway again this holiday season, with a goal of supporting every child at Verde K-8 School. The annual Holiday Fundraiser, sponsored by Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia, aims to raise $6,000 to provide each student with a new book and a school sweater.

Verde K-8, the only school in North Richmond, serves as a central pillar for local families. While its students are known for their talent, resilience, and potential, they also face significant challenges. Every child at the school qualifies for free or reduced lunch, underscoring the need for continued community investment.

“I’ve had the honor of representing North Richmond on the Board of Supervisors for over 25 years,” Gioia said. “I’ve seen firsthand how vital Verde School is, not just as an educational institution, but as a hub for community connection and opportunity.”

As part of the fundraiser, the community is invited to a Holiday Party & Open House on Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 5–7 p.m. at 11780 San Pablo Avenue, Suite D, El Cerrito.

Donations are due by Friday, Dec. 12, and can be made online or by mail:
