On Friday, Oct. 31, 14 “frightened” couples will be wed at the haunted-chic Port Costa School.
It’s part of the Contra Costa County Clerk’s Office annual “Scaremonies,” which are part romance, part horror, but all fun.
In partnership with the Port Costa Conservation Society, the event will transform this historic, ghost-worthy national landmark into the ultimate Halloween wedding venue. Couples, guests, and officiants are encouraged to come clad in costume, though classic robes remain on the menu for the faint of heart.

“Contra Costa County is home to many historical, hidden gems, and Port Costa School is a very special landmark that will most definitely provide a thrilling and unforgettable wedding experience on Halloween,” said Clerk-Recorder and Commissioner of Civil Marriages, Kristin B. Connelly.
To secure your eerie slot, call (925) 335-7900 ASAP, as only a handful of services are available. Don’t forget: you must obtain your marriage license in advance at the Clerk-Recorder’s Office in Martinez. Fees: $95 for a public license, $100 for a confidential one, and $120 for the Destination Wedding civil ceremony.
Ready to make it official (and a little otherworldly)? Visit contracostavote.gov or call (925) 335-7900, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
