The San Pablo Police Department (SPPD) is requesting public assistance to identify a suspect linked to an arson incident on Sept. 18. At about 4:17 a.m., officers responded to a vehicle fire in the 13900 block of San Pablo Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a car parked within a carport, fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters from the Contra Costa County Fire District extinguished the blaze. At the time, both the vehicle and the attached commercial building were unoccupied. Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set by an unknown individual. The suspect was seen leaving the scene on foot. He is described as a white man, approximately 30–40 years old, wearing a black graphic T-shirt over a gray long-sleeve shirt, dark pants, and black shoes. Police are encouraging residents who know this person's whereabouts to contact Detective J. Spiegel at JosephS@SanPabloCA.gov or call 510-215-3109.

Brett Allen Bisnett, 43, of Eureka, was arrested and charged with two counts of arson in connection with a vehicle fire in a carport in San Pablo on Sept. 18.

Last week, the San Pablo Police Department released surveillance images of a suspect in the arson, which left a parked, unoccupied vehicle fully engulfed in flames near a commercial building in the 13900 block of San Pablo Avenue, not far from the police department.

Through investigative follow-ups, San Pablo Police Department (SPPD) detectives identified Bisnett as the suspect. A Ramey warrant for Bisnett’s arrest was issued on Sept. 30. That same morning, SPPD investigators learned that Bisnett was into custody in Alameda County on unrelated charges.

This past Wednesday, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office formally charged Bisnett with two counts of arson. He remains in custody in Alameda County as the case develops.

“We would like to thank our community for the outpouring of support in providing tips, being on the lookout, and for sharing the post,” the San Pablo Police Department stated.
