Emmanuel Rodriguez, 26, was fatally shot in a possible gang-related incident on 23rd Street in San Pablo early Saturday, March 29, and police are searching for his killer.

Detectives are seeking the public’s help in finding the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Juan Vargas of San Pablo, who “should be considered armed and dangerous, and who should not be approached,” according to the San Pablo Police Department.

The fatal shooting was reported at 1:29 a.m. in the 2000 block of 23rd Street. Witnesses reported a man was shot by an unknown suspect. All parties fled prior to the arrival of police, but officers learned the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Vargas was identified as the suspect based upon witness statements and evidence gathered at the scene, police said. He is described as a Hispanic man, about 5-5 and 150 pounds. If you encounter him, police advise that you contact your local law enforcement agency or call 911.

Anyone with further information about this incident or Vargas’ whereabouts is urged to contact the SPPD Investigations Division at (510) 215-3150.
