The Richmond Police Department’s parking enforcement team is issuing warning notices in advance of the return of street sweeping enforcement.
Enforcement is estimated to begin in mid-April, or once all the new street sweeping signs are installed. The RPD said it would announce an exact date in the future.
As The Standard reported in late January, city crews are busy installing 1,330 new street sweeping signs in multiple neighborhoods throughout the city. Street sweeping enforcement was paused during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the city is resuming and expanding enforcement in part to prevent debris from ending up in storm drains and waterways.
The RPD advises residents to become familiar with the street sweeping times and dates on the streets where they park. You can access that information here.
“Even though we aren’t issuing citations, please do the right thing,” the RPD stated. “If you know it’s your street sweeping day, move your car so the street sweeper can do its job, clean the streets, and prevent trash and debris from entering the bay.”
