A new mural has been created at a soon-to-open business and it features a familiar face.

Security Public Storage, which is opening a 100,000 square foot facility in El Cerrito in January 2025, is putting the finishing touches on its state-of-the-art building, including a vibrant mural by artist Jerry Ragg on the building’s Western side.

Adorning the mural is a proud Rosie the Riveter accompanied by other iconic imagery from the surrounding community like a del Norte BART train and Rialto Cinemas Cerrito theatre, according to an El Cerrito Chamber of Commerce article by Robert Rogers.

Paul Anderson, national marketing manager for the company, told the Standard that the company incorporates community murals into all its locations. He shared with the Chamber that the company values public art that reflects the diversity and character of the community.

The new business will open in a former Orchard Supply Hardware building at 1711 Eastshore Blvd. in El Cerrito and will feature 676 individual storage units for rent ranging from 5×5 feet to 10×29 feet, according to the article.

Anderson said Security Public Storage plans to host a ribbon cutting Jan. 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in front of the building to celebrate its opening. He said that they will also host a more official “spring community event” when the weather’s better.

In the meantime, the city’s first storage facility is now taking reservations here.
