A Mexican-style food truck is proposed to be located across the street from Richmond High School.
Alejandro Gongora is requesting a conditional use permit from the City of San Pablo to operate Grandma’s Kitchen at 1305 23rd St. The truck would take up some of the parking spaces at the site and would use lawn space next to a church for an outdoor seating area with five picnic tables.
The mobile vending truck would be packed up at the end of each day and relocated to Zee Cooks Commissary in San Francisco.
Pastor James Edwards, who leads the adjacent church — The Joshua Church of God in Christ — approves of the food truck proposal.
“We are pleased to collaborate with Mr. Gongora and Grandma’s Kitchen to improve the underutilized lawn space and to offer the community a safe space to dine while providing a serene ambiance and delicious foods,” Edwards wrote in a letter.
The menu for Grandma’s Kitchen would include Mexican dishes such as tacos, tortas, burritos and quesadillas. It also includes hot dishes like chicken tortilla soup, various protein plates, taco bowls, and flauta plates.
The proposed hours of operation for Grandma’s Kitchen are Monday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The City of San Pablo’s Planning Commission is expected to review the proposal at its next meeting on Tuesday, July 23.
