San Pablo City Council approves name for new pocket park

At its July 1 meeting, the San Pablo City Council unanimously approved “Happy Friday Park (In Honor of Jorge Rueda)” as the name for the city’s new neighborhood pocket park at 17th Street and Bush Avenue.

The name was recommended to the City Council by local San Pablo residents, Downer Elementary faculty and students, as well as the city’s Neighborhood Champions, who work to enhance its beauty and cleanliness.

Efforts creating the park commenced in the spring and are continuing throughout the summer. Along the way, the small park is being fashioned with numerous fun-in-the-sun amenities such as exercise equipment, a children’s play structure, swings and a short walking path. The City of San Pablo said that the park’s play equipment is set to be installed following the Independence Day holiday.

On the heels of the name-approval, signage for Happy Friday Park (In Honor of Jorge Rueda) will be installed by this fall.
