The community is invited to a unique and free event at Contra Costa College this Friday that will feature a documentary screening, a car show and a panel discussion.

American Homeboy, directed by Brandon Loran Maxwell, is the star of the event, which is scheduled to run from 5:30-9 p.m. at the John & Jean Knox Performing Arts Center on the Contra Costa College campus in San Pablo.

The event will kick off with a “Shine & Show” car show from 5:30-6:30 p.m., followed by the documentary screening at 6:30 p.m. A panel discussion with the director and cast members will follow.

American Homeboy explores the complex origins of Pachuco and Cholo culture, which sprouted from American soil in response to wartime sentiment, social alienation, and government discrimination, only to become a cultural phenomenon.

The car show will come courtesy of Otra Cosa CC Richmond, JustLowriders Bay Area CC, Excandalow Bay Area Car Club and Brotherhood Bay Area.

Free limited edition event T-Shirts will be handed out to the first 50 attendees. Light refreshments will be served.
