7 Stars is first Bay Area cannabis dispensary to become certified green business

7 Stars Holistic Healing Center is the first cannabis dispensary in the Bay Area to be certified as a green business by the California Green Business Network.

Located at 3219 Pierce St., 7 Stars is one of eight cannabis dispensaries in the state to achieve this status thus far, and the only in the Bay Area, according to Ian Elwood, 7 Stars director of marketing.

The dispensary accomplished this by moving to 100 percent wind and solar power, starting to compost its organic waste, reducing water usage, installing electric vehicle chargers, switching to eco-friendly cleaning products and other changes, Elwood said.

7 Stars only recently learned it is the lone Bay Area dispensary to achieve green certificaiton, as the listing was only recently published online, according to Elwood. In February, Susan Psara, hazardous waste reduction manager at the Contra Costa Green Building Program, ran a database query which returned a definitive list of dispensaries in the program.

“Green Business Certification required going through our entire operation with a fine-tooth comb,” says 7 Stars Executive Officer Joe Dayem. “It took a lot of work, but the payoff is well worth it. Aligning our operations to our values is always worth doing.”
