Contra Costa County is inviting mothers to join its celebration of Black Breastfeeding Week (Aug. 25-31) at the “Chocolate Milk Lounge,” which is being held at multiple locations throughout the county this week, including in San Pablo.
The Chocolate Mile Lounge is a free health education event to help black moms and families meet each other and learn about the importance of breastfeeding their infants, county officials said.
The term, Chocolate Milk, derives from a new documentary that explores the racial divide in breastfeeding, seeking to answer the longstanding question of why more black omen are not breastfeeding.
“The Lounge includes certified lactation consultants and information about community resources to support breastfeeding mothers, along with prizes, gift bags, snacks and more,” according to the county.
The lounge is sponsored by Contra Costa Health Services, Black Infant Health and First 5 Contra Costa.
