If you want to “go local,” you should consider getting there on one of El Sobrante Cyclery’s two-wheelers.
El Sobrante Cyclery at 5057 El Portal Drive first opened in 1957. Its owner, Kenneth Brown, was raised in El Sobrante. He came to the bike shop as a kid.
“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” Brown told us.
It is that sort of dedication to community that has inspired loyal, longtime customers.
The shop sells a wide range of bicycles, bicycle parts and accessories, including comfort bikes, BMX bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, tricycles and other items. The business touts having the largest selection of BMX bikes and parts in the Bay Area. Repairs are also offered at the shop.
Brown said his store benefits from an ideal location near the freeway, “easy on and off” for customers, he said. He said El Sobrante Cyclery also benefits from a friendly community.
Brown’s customers say the same about his store.
“Fast friendly service. Prices are fair, and location is easy to find,” said one online review.
Said another, “I have purchased a few mountain bikes from El Sobrante Cyclery and I have had them repair my bikes for over 20 years! Ken, Gary and the others are excellent mechanics!”
