A new grocery store and coffee shop with outdoor seating opened at the San Pablo Library on Dec. 18.

On Thursday, Jan. 17, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony are set to take place for Prime Time Nutrition and Joe’s Brew at the library at 13751 San Pablo Ave. The San Pablo Economic Development Corp. is hosting the event.

The shop — the 86th opened by opened by Nutricion Fundamental, Inc., a California corporation with offices in Los Angeles and Hayward — aims to serve the community with fresh, affordable produce and coffee, including those participating in federal nutrition programs such as SNAP and WIC, according to the San Pablo EDC.

It’s the first store by the company that features a coffee shop. Baristas at Joe’s Brew will serve up just about any coffee creation to library users, commuters, workers and residents, San Pablo EDC said.

Joe’s Brew is named after Joseph Amiri, who opened the first Prime Time Nutrition store in 1994.

Vivian Wong, a senior program coordinator for San Pablo EDC, raved about the new business — both its quality of products and its focus on providing affordable, nutritional options to local families.

“The prices are jaw-droppingly low, produce is fresh and culturally appropriate, and the coffee (for a coffee snob like myself) is truly spectacular,” Wong said.
