Fairmede-Hilltop Neighborhood Council and Hilltop Community Church will host a mayoral forum on Thursday, April 23, at 6:30 p.m. to introduce residents to the five candidates running in Richmond’s first-ever primary election.
The church at 3118 Shane Drive offers 1,800 seats and plenty of parking for the event, which features incumbent Mayor Eduardo Martinez and challengers Ahmad Anderson, Claudia Jimenez, Demnlus Johnson, and Mark Wassberg. Arto Rinteela, a leader with the Fairmede/Hilltop and Richmond Neighborhood Coordinating Councils, is encouraging the public to attend this educational session before mail-in ballots arrive in early May. KCRT will also air the forum live on its social media channels, including YouTube and Facebook.
This forum comes amid changes in Richmond’s electoral rules for the June 2 primary. A candidate who secures more than 50 percent of the vote will win the election immediately. If no one reaches that majority, the top two candidates will move on to a runoff in the November general election.Â
