The City of Richmond and Prologis, the new owner of the Hilltop Mall property, are inviting the community to hear the latest announcements on the future of the Hilltop property and nearby areas.
City planners will attend the Fairmede Hilltop Neighborhood Council meeting on Thursday, May 23, to provide an update on the Hilltop Horizon Specific Plan. The event will take place at 7 p.m. at Hilltop Community Church, 3118 Shane Drive.
The Hilltop Horizon Specific Plan encompasses about 145 acres that includes the 77-acre Hilltop Mall property owned by Prologis, a real estate company specializing in warehouses and logistics properties. The remaining acreage encompasses 19 other property owners to the south and southeast of the defunct mall. Those property owners are also participating in the Specific Plan.
Preliminary proposals presented last fall included replacing the mall property and its vast unused parking lot with a mix of residential, retail and parks along with a warehouse. Walmart is expected to remain there as part of the development.
A land use plan has developed with community input that will soon be presented to the city’s Planning Commission.
