The coach of Kennedy High’s girls soccer team has launched a GoFundMe fundraiser to purchase equipment for the team.
While the Eagles have held fundraisers such as raffles and food sales in the past, such opportunities have been made difficult by the COVID-19 pandemic, Coach Yaquelin Valencia Lombera said in the Go Fund Me.
The coach said it’s difficult to coach a team with limited equipment.
“We may not be the winning champions of the school or league,” the coach said, “But I can guarantee these girls have a safe space to come and be active. Some of the players show up with no cleats, no socks or shinguards.”
The fundraiser aims to raise $2,000. At the time of this writing, it had achieved a little over half of that amount.
“I’ve invested 4 years coaching these young girls,” Coach Valencia Lombera said. “My goal is to continue to do so. It’s hard to coach a team with limited equipment and limited parent support.”
