Matt Barnes, a former NBA small forward whose 14-year career in the league included a championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2017, visited Richmond City Hall this afternoon to learn about the work being done by the Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS) to reduce gun violence in the city, according to Mayor Tom Butt.

“Matt is the new National Director of Social Advocacy for Advance Peace, an organization created by the former director of ONS, Devonne Bogan, which helps other cities create gun violence prevention programs similar to Richmond’s,” the mayor said in a social media post. “After our meet-and-greet, Matt took a ride with ONS through Richmond neighborhoods to seem them at work. You may have had an NBA star in your neighborhood today!”
