For the first time in 31 years, the De Anza High boys basketball team is a North Coast Section champion.

On Saturday, the No. 2-seeded Dons defeated No. 5 Alameda 57-48 to cap the Division II crown.

Guard Broyce Batchan Jr. led the Dons with 22 points in the win, while fellow guard Daniel Fagan added 15 points, according to 49ers CalHi Sports, which posted highlights from the game on its YouTube channel (see below).

The team’s historic season continues on Tuesday, when the Dons face St. Francis-Mountain view in the CIF State Division II Norcal Playoffs.

It was De Anza’s first appearance in an NCS title game in 15 years, when it came just short during the 2005-2006 season of beating Campolindo for the NCS Division III title, according to the West Contra Costa Unified School District.
