Parents of budding ninjas will want to check out the latest offerings from Richmond’s resident ninja gym, Traverse Fitness.
During President’s Week—Feb. 17-21—and also during Spring Break—Mar. 30 to Apr. 3 and Apr. 6-10—Traverse Fitness will host camps from 9 a.m. to noon daily for kids ages 6-13. The cost is $65 per day or $295 per week, with a 20 percent discount available for Richmond residents as well as for families.
For families, the first child will be charged full price; the second child will receive 25 percent off and the third child will be given 50 percent off. Kids will be placed in groups according to height and a healthy snack is included in the price.
“We’re new to Richmond and we really want to make sure the community is able to come in,” said Traverse Fitness CEO Caroline Lee about the available discounts.
According to Lee, the camp curriculum will rotate through a variety of ninja skills and activities each day during the camps, such as balancing and traversing, steps and swinging, trampoline and rope swing and running up the gym’s warped walls. On the last day of the camps, kids will complete an obstacle course including all of their previous activities.
“Our Winter Camp was a hit,” Lee said about Traverse Fitness’ camp over the holiday break. At this writing, space is still available for the upcoming camps.
Traverse Fitness is located at 1 West Barrett Ave. in Richmond. Two of its founders—Sean Bryan, “Papal Ninja” and Troy Helming, “Solar Ninja,” have competed on the American Ninja Warrior TV show. A sampling of the gym’s ninja-style offerings for kids and adults alike include a rope swing; 6, 8 and 10 ft. warped walls; a side-to-side ring toss; spinning log; trampoline; zip lines and more. Classes, gym memberships and open gym days are available.
