The Richmond Police Department recently celebrated the retirement of Lt. Donovan Decious after 20 years of service to the city and multiple accolades and letters of commendation.
Lt. Decious served 25 years in law enforcement in total, having begun his career with the Mountain View Police Department. He joined the RPD as a lateral officer on June 13, 2005. His assignments included Patrol, the CIB Family Services Section, and work as a detective. He is a POST-certified Law Enforcement Physical Trainer who spent over 50 hours of his own time developing a fitness program for new officers and cadets, according to the RPD.
Decious was promoted to sergeant in 2014. In this role, he served in Patrol, the CIB Parole Unit, the SIS Gangs Unit, Traffic, and the Special Events/Special Enforcement Unit. He was also a member of the SWAT Team and graduated from the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Program. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2022, where he led Patrol and oversaw Traffic Enforcement, Motorcycles, and Special Events. A video of his final day at work shows dozens of police personnel hugging him while his final radio call announcing his retirement plays in the background.
