Washington Elementary, the region’s oldest dual language Spanish immersion school, launched Kermés ¡Viva Cultura! to connect students’ classroom learning with the broader community.
“Events like Kermés honor our students’ heritage while inviting the entire community to celebrate with us,” said PTA President Alán Bonilla.
The free event is held in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Live music, dancing, artisan vendors, traditional foods, and community resource booths are among its fun features. Part of downtown will close to traffic as the area transforms into a daylong cultural festival open to all.
Organizers note that the event depends on sponsorships and donations to cover artist fees and festival costs. Sponsorships are due by Sept. 10.
