From Aug. 1-3, the Tibetan Association of Northern California (TANC) in Richmond hosted His Eminence the 13th Kundeling Tatsak Rinpoche for a series of spiritual teachings. The event drew hundreds of attendees daily, with over 600 present on Sunday.

Recognized by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama as the reincarnation of the 12th Kundeling Tatsak Rinpoche, His Eminence holds a significant place in Tibetan Buddhism. In previous incarnations, he served as Regent of Tibet, Senior Tutor to the Dalai Lama, and Gaden Tripa. He earned a Doctorate in Buddhist Studies from Drepung Monastic University in 2013 and completed tantric studies at Gyumed Monastery in 2014.

During the three-day event, the Rinpoche delivered teachings on “Introduction to Karma,” “The Three Principals of the Path,” and conducted a “Long Life White Tara Initiation.” White Tara, a revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism, is associated with health, healing, and longevity. In an interview with the Richmond Standard, His Eminence emphasized the initiation’s focus on cultivating emotional and mental well-being, stating it fosters “an emotional inner balance in essence.”

“For Bay Area Tibetans, H.E. Kundeling Tatsak Rinpoche’s visit is not only a rare opportunity to receive sacred teachings from a deeply revered spiritual leader, but also a profound reinforcement of our cultural identity and heritage,” said Tashi Kunjo, president of TANC. “It strengthens community bonds, unites generations, and serves as a powerful reminder of our shared roots.”

The Rinpoche also shared his impressions of the U.S., noting the country’s diverse natural beauty and the opportunities available to those willing to work diligently.

The event was part of TANC’s ongoing efforts to promote Tibetan language and culture under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, recognizing the Central Tibetan Administration as the legitimate representative of the Tibetan people.
