BART today called out a notable uptick in ridership in June, marking a 13.4 percent increase compared to the same month in the previous year. This growth is particularly evident on weekends, with Saturday ridership climbing by 24.6 percent year-over-year and a 15.2 percent rise from May to June.

Special events significantly contributed to these numbers, according to the transit agency. On June 14, the “No Kings Day” protests resulted in the second-highest Saturday ridership since the pandemic began. Similarly, the San Francisco Pride Parade on June 29 led to the second-highest Sunday ridership since 2020.

BART’s focus on safety and cleanliness is part of the draw, along with its new, modern trains.

Weekday ridership, however, remains below pre-pandemic levels, with BART attributing the decline to remote work. In June 2019, BART recorded an average weekday ridership of about 413,525 passenger exits, compared with about 164,743 passengers in June last month.
