The City of Richmond recently celebrated the graduation of 35 residents from the Spring 2025 Richmond CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Academy. These residents completed a rigorous 10-week training program designed to equip everyday citizens with life-saving emergency response skills.
The final drill and graduation ceremony took place at the Richmond Fire Training Center and was conducted in partnership with the San Pablo CERT cohort.Â
Richmond CERT is a federally supported program administered locally by the Richmond Fire Department. It empowers residents with essential emergency preparedness and response skills, enabling them to assist their communities during major emergencies and natural disasters when professional responders may be delayed or overwhelmed.
Trained in first aid, emergency radio use, small fire suppression, and wound care, these citizen responders are prepared to step in and assist during major emergencies or natural disasters, when professional first responders are delayed or overwhelmed.
The Richmond Fire Department commended the graduates for their dedication and emphasized the importance of community-led emergency preparedness.Â
For those interested in joining a future CERT academy or learning more about disaster preparedness, the city encourages residents to contact the Richmond Office of Emergency Services.
