The City of Richmond announced its annual Juneteenth Parade and Festival will take place June 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The parade will, per usual, march through the heart of the city while en route to the family-friendly festival at Nicholl Park, 3230 Macdonald Ave.

The festival always comes with live music, dance performances, cultural displays, local vendors, delicious food and family-friendly activities throughout the day.

Juneteenth is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the date in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Texas finally learned they were free, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

Richmond has been celebrating this heritage for over four decades in collaboration with local community-based organizations. Those interested in hosting vendor booths to showcase your business or organization can do so by filling out a Vendor Booth Application here. Those interested in participating in the parade can apply here.

Another way to support the celebration is with a donation to Juneteenth through the Richmond Police Activities League. Donations can be mailed to 2200 Macdonald Ave., with checks made out to “Richmond Juneteenth.”

Every contribution helps continue this meaningful tradition and create an unforgettable experience for our community. Click into the city’s website here for more information, including relevant parade and festival contacts.
