Did you know that Richmond plays home to one of the most significant Eames collections in the world?

The Eames Institute of Infinite Curiosity’s expansive collection of more than 40,000 objects—consisting of industrial designs, prototypes, ephemera, tools and personal items that Charles and Ray Eames created and collected—can be toured free of charge during a “Community Day” on Thursday, Feb. 13. The event marks the Institute’s first anniversary.

The tours of the Eames Archives offer an immersive look at the work and legacy of the married designers, who rose to fame for their mid-century modern furniture designs, among them iconic dining and lounge chairs. The special 45-minute tours are available at 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

“To mark this special milestone, we want to show our appreciation for the local community that has supported us,” stated the Institute on its website. As such, the tickets are intended for Richmond/East Bay community members.

The Eames Institute is located at 1330 South 51st St. in Richmond. Questions? Email [email protected] or call (707) 765-1717. To reserve tickets, click here.
