Fancy a piece of Richmond history to have for your very own? The Brickyard Landing Homeowners Association (HOA) in Richmond is hosting a giveaway event of 3,000 free bricks stamped “Richmond” Friday, Jan. 31 from noon to 4 p.m. at Brickyard Landing in the city.

The bricks will be given away free of charge to local nonprofits and civic organizations, as well as to Richmond community members.

The bricks are unique not only due to their Richmond-monikers, but also due to their place in city history. They were used in the construction of the Los Angeles Brick Company in Point Richmond circa 1907; the company manufactured bricks used as street pavers and on multiple prominent buildings following the San Francisco earthquake, according to the HOA.

“Today they serve as enduring symbols of Richmond’s industrial heritage,” the association added.

The event will double-down as an opportunity to highlight an evolving project between the HOA and the Richmond Historical Preservation Commission that is working to stabilize one of the original brickmaking kilns on the Brickyard Landing property. Ultimately, the project will make the kiln-space safer for the community to visit.

During the event, participating nonprofits and civic organizations are expected to showcase their work and connect with the community, according to the HOA.

Brickyard Landing, site of the event, is located at 1223 Brickyard Cove Lane in Richmond.
